Summer vacation part 1
Hi All,
We've been having too much fun this summer to write anything! But here's a short synopsis:
June - Ilea had a dance recital for Ballet and Tap. She did great! They looked beautiful, and we're getting a DVD of the recital. Next time you visit you can take a look!
July - Spent July 4th with our friends the Natsuhara's. Marian's brother, Dave, puts on a fantastic show every year.
The kids also went to a sports camp in the evening of one week. They played all different kinds of sports, and won some prizes. The last night was a carnival. It was fun.
July 22 - we left for Ca to visit our families. We went to Fresno first, during a heat wave. It was 115 when we got there. They set a new record for hot - overnight low - the first night was 86, which broke a record held since 1931. The next night was 90. Luckily, we got to stay in Kipp's parent's brand new gorgeous (and air conditioned) house. It was just finished in May. It was beautiful. We also enjoyed swimming in their friends' pool.
After a few days we headed over to Los Altos where it was a little cooler. Kipp and I had the chance to visit some friends. We had dinner with Leon and Jen over in Half Moon Bay, which was fun. We went to parks, and Grandpa & Kipp took the kids kite flying while Mom and I went out to lunch and shopping. Our whole family went and visiting with some friends from college that we hadn't seen a lot of years! They surprised us by inviting a few more friends. It was great to get caught up and visit. Everyone was doing really well.
After a week in Ca, we left Kyler with the Millets, and Ilea with the Howards and headed back home by ourselves. Up north we took everything out of our den, removed wallpaper borders, and repainted our den. It had become a black hole. We bought a new desk, sold the old one on Craig's list, and attempted to put all the stuff back into the room neatly. What a job! It pretty much made it a working vacation for us. The day before Kyler came back we did get to go to Wild Waves, which was a present from my friend Ramona. It was a fun relaxing day. Sat Kyler flew back on a plane all by himself. He had fun, and did well.
Here is what he did in Calif with his grandparents: Sun - went to the library, went to a bookstore and got a kids cookbook, and read some of those books. Mon they baked 2 batches of gingerbread cookies together, read books, and played Uno. Tues they went to the zoo and park, got popsicles, rode a dragon train, rode 3 merry-go-rounds!, did a maze, and rode on a viking boat! Plus they still went to the library again! Wed they went to a park, the beach and flew kites, and had dinner out in Santa Cruz. Thr they played with a plane, met some friends and the kids went into the Jungle Play area. Kyler loved it a lot. Friday they all went into the city and rode the cable cars and went to Ghiradelli square for ice cream. What a week! Sat they sent him home.
Ilea had a lot of fun in Fresno also. She stayed longer than Kyler - 17 days total! She stayed 2 weeks in Fresno, learning to swim, playing, going to Playland/zoo, and reading a lot of books. She learned to swim the long length of the pool this time! Brenda has been teaching her the last few years. They also went to 2 movies, Barnyard and Ant Bully. Ilea loved both of them. At the end she went over to Los Altos and spent a couple of more days with the Millets. Then she flew home on a Tues. She also did great on the plane. We were glad to have her back!
While Ilea was gone and Kyler was home he was able to go to a VBS, and we took him to see Barnyard as well. It was a fun extended vacation for everyone.
