Kyler's Song

Kyler has been in choir this year. He's at a disadvantage since he can't read, but they repeat the songs a lot. He's gotten most of it, but the one he sang today surprised me. It's a tune I know, but his words differ a little....

"I will call upon the Lord, who is learning to be brave"

The other version says, "I will call upon the Lord, who is worthy to be praised"

Growing up at School

Ilea had quite a week this week! Monday she had a huge emotional growing day, although she may not realize it. I asked how her day was, and she said great.
Mom: What did you do?
I: I played with Celena every recess, except when I was apologizing to Gage.
M: Why? What happened?
I: I was being mean to him and I apologized.
M: How? Did the teacher make you do it?
I: No, I just did it on my own. During music I called him a name, and I felt bad later. He always stinks.
M: Were other kids doing it too? Did someone else hear you call him a name?
I: Yes, others do it all the time. There were two other kids also who called him a name. But when I talked to him at recess we got to be friends a little! Turns out that he wants to be skinnier like me. I told Gage I wanted to be not so skinny, like Mom and Dad.

Wow. My heart was so full of emotion! Upset that Ilea would be following the crowd and picking on someone for something he couldn't help. Picking on anyone! Calling anyone names! Gage is heavy, and I've never noticed a smell, but Ilea says he does smell a lot. But so proud of her for going to him and apologizing on her own! That's a huge thing. Especially at school, and with someone who no one else is apologizing to. I'm thrilled that she talked to him enough that they may become friends, and that she is getting a first hand experience of the power of her words. It's such a shock that she's growing up, and responsible on her own, and making her own good and bad choices, which are starting to affect her and the people around her. It's been so trivial up to now, and even at Kyler's age, easy to dismiss anything said poorly.

Tues was a school play put on by the 1st and 2nd graders for the whole school. In the evening they did it again for all the parents. It was fun.

Wed was early dismissal, and she broke her glasses. We'll have to figure that one out.

Thr is a science fair, which she is in. We spend most of Wed getting it ready. I can't wait for Friday!
