What goes in a gas tank?

Kyler and I were in the car this morning. He saw someone who had left thier gas tank door open, and said that was bad. Then he asked why gas tanks need a cover. I said that you didn't want the gas to splash out, or anything else to go in.
K: Like what?
M: You don't want rain, or water, or anything else to go in.
K (totally serious): Like a sandwich could accidentally fall in.
M: Yeah, that would be bad...

Kids say the most Amazing things!

My children continue to amaze me with what they say. We're past a lot of the cute, funny toddler just-learning-to-speak things, and now they are amazing me with who they are. Here are a couple of conversations I had today.

In the car:
K: Mom, I read "Biscuit and the Baby"
Me: Wow, Kyler, that's great!
K: I knew the first word was Biscuit, and I really read the other words! (this is a book we picked up today at the library, and he chose it to come with us to dinner).
Ilea: Kyler, did you read it, or just memorize it?
K: I read it!
I: (after a pause), Ok, I will beleive you Kyler. Good job reading those words!
M: Thank you Ilea, that was a nice thing to say.
I: That's because I'm a good big sister, and that's what sisters do!

Later, just Kyler and I were in the car. Remember, he's only 4.
K: Mom, did the people who killed Jesus love God?
M: That's complicated, honey. They thought they did love God, but they were afraid of Jesus, and so they killed him.
K: But it was a good thing.
M: What was good about it?
K: He had to save all our sins, and so they were really doing a good thing. And God knew it would be OK and he [Jesus] would be alive again.

Kyler really has some deep thoughts sometimes. They both are wonderful, amazing kids.

Look Closer!

Kyler was reading one of his school books to me. There were similar words, like Pog and Pig. Kyler said one of the words with the wrong vowel, so I told him to look closer. He immediately pulled the book up to about 2 inches in front of his face and kept reading!

I was thinking recently that it would be "kind of" fun to start a taking a self portrait every New Years Day and posting it to our Blog. Jenny had the idea that it would be fun to do this for the whole family as well. It would be really cool to see the kids's self portrait as the grow up over the years.

Anyway, here is mine. It took me 4 tries to get one I somewhat liked. Who cares what it looks like really. This is just an experiment anyway.

PS: I've trying out the flickr service for posting some photos. I'm not 100% sure how to make a link into my flickr account so just go to http://www.flickr.com and search for my account (kipphoward).
