What is worse than getting stung by four wasps?

Getting stung by five wasps.

I was getting ready to mow the lawn tonight and was walking the lawn mower around to the front of the house. Little did I know that the small wasp nest that I sprayed a few weeks back had grown a bit. As the mower went by, the wasps started to get mad, which is about the same time my right leg walked by and the first sting registered in my head. At that point, I realized that the wasp nest was now exposed and bunches of wasps were buzzing around my legs. So I boogied out of the area with the mower, yelling to the kids to get inside. Kyler didn't hear me so he walks over to the edge of the deck and asks in a relatively calm voice what was wrong. I yell at him to get inside quickly. Luckily he and Ilea escaped with out a single sting. It turns out I got four stings on my right calf and one on my left. I cannot remember the last time I was stung by a bee or wasp. It was probably over 20 years ago. It has been about three hours since the stings and my right calf is still feeling the pain.

After the initial encounter, I have since drenched their nest with wasp spray and will try to remove it tomorrow. As you can see in the picture, the nest is quite large in the hole. When we first saw it, it was a hole about the size of a half-dollar. Tonight it looks as though some animal ripped apart the ground around the nest. I'm not sure what did that but I suspect it got a nose full of wasp.

I'm just extremely thankful that Kyler, Ilea or any of the other kids that play at our house were not stung by the wasps. That could have been a very bad scene.
